We talk to James about his role at MarketInvoice, some of the challenges he's faced and what he's hoping to achieve in the future.
What is your role and what does it involve?
As an Account Manager, it is my duty to ensure that my portfolio of clients continue to use us when they need and that I assist them as best as I can. It means building a good rapport with all my clients and helping them with queries regarding their funding or the platform.
Being proactive and having a hard work ethic is essential to being a good Account Manager and making the most of your portfolio.
What career progression and personal development have you seen at MarketInvoice?
I started my career here in the Sales Academy as a New Business Executive. My role was to produce new business and qualify leads. After undergoing training and shadowing different colleagues across Sales, it became clear to me that Account Management was the path I wanted to take.
The Sales Academy programme was a year long, and I got a promotion after 7 months. There is also progression available within the Account Management team, as you can receive more accounts or accounts that are bigger or have more complex financial needs. It means that there’s a lot of opportunity to learn more and take on more responsibility.
What are some of the challenges you are facing in your role?
The main challenge of being an Account Manager is time management. It can be quite easy to get bogged down in the administrative aspects, taking your focus away from optimising your portfolio and meeting sales objectives. To do well in this role you need to use your time efficiently and effectively.
Another challenging aspect is educating clients and managing their expectations. Sometimes they won’t understand processes or why risk decisions have been made in a certain way so it’s crucial for us to be able to explain this clearly. This then helps them understand any steps that they can take to improve the amount of funding they can get.
What have you enjoyed about working at MarketInvoice so far?
The most enjoyable part of working here has to be the atmosphere. The sales floor is always buzzing and the company culture is great to be a part of. There are several events and activities that take place after work – I enjoy the 5 a-side football, book club and having a beer after work on a Thursday.
What are you hoping to achieve at MarketInvoice in the future?
I hope to continue my development and take on larger accounts in the future. The company is growing and it’s exciting to be a part of that – I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds!
