As the only IT Support Engineer at Kriya, I wear many hats. Primarily, I was brought in to kickstart our in-house IT infrastructure support.
What is your role and what does it involve?
I am currently the only IT Support Engineer at Kriya, brought in to kickstart our in-house IT infrastructure support. I wear many hats, but primarily I am responsible for the hardware infrastructure which spans network, telecoms and devices. I also cover support, administration and troubleshooting of cloud applications. Recently I’ve been working with the Legal team to harden our infrastructure security in preparation for GDPR.
Why did you decide to join kriya?
Kriya presented technical and new uncharted challenges. Whereas other companies are usually fully established, I came on board here to set up and pull together pieces of the Kriya jigsaw puzzle – plus they have biscuits!
What has been your most challenging experience here?
Things are constantly changing and moving. As a result, it can be a challenge to manage the daily operations of IT support whilst also working on any changes that arise for other projects.
What has been the most rewarding moment working at kriya?
The correlation between our increased monthly recurring revenue and my time here. Finance won’t give me that one, but they know it 😉 Every day is rewarding as you can see how we are constantly growing and our jigsaw puzzle is coming together.
What’s the best advice you have received in your career?
When I told my first manager about my plans to move on to new pastures, he told me “go big! I want to read about you one day.” Hence, I am always moving forward towards anything that challenges me and takes me out of my comfort zone.
What’s your background? What were you doing before you joined kriya?
In my first job I interned as a graphic designer but soon realised it wasn’t for me. Shortly after, I decided to turn my hobby and love for IT into a career, starting my first proper job as an IT Support Apprentice at a law firm. I had only ever worked within the legal sector until I crossed over to Fintech for the biscuits 😊
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
Despite any stereotypes, I don’t just sit at home on my computer! I’m an active person and always up for trying new things. Recently I have been travelling to small towns in the UK and Europe on weekends, bouldering (to conquer my fear of heights) and cycling to work. I was a tap dancer for two years and I also learnt how to swim, even though I was afraid of water!
